A graduate of Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, Joel Tovel has spent more than 15 years working in Seattle and the San Francisco, California area. Joel Tovel remains involved with his alma mater and holds an active membership with the West Coast chapter of the Concordia University Alumni Association (CUAA). He is also the chapter’s president.

Serving more than 200,000 alumni of Concordia University, along with its founding institutions of Loyola College and Sir George Williams University in Montreal, the CUAA provides graduates with a mentoring program, networking opportunities, and chapter events. The North American sector of the CUAA has more than 141,000 alumni.

One of the events where the CCUA represented itself was the school’s annual walkathon. The 2016 event, which occurred on September 23, 2016, began at the downtown campus of Sir George Williams University and ended the Loyola College campus. All funds raised from the event benefitted student scholarships and bursaries. Since the school began the walkathon in 1990, more than 750 undergraduates and graduates have received funds via the money raised. The 2016 event brought in an all-time high of CA$84,000.
