The ADL’s mission emphasizes working to protect vulnerable communities in American society, particularly at a time of rising racially and culturally motivated incidents. On May 2, 2017, the CEO and national director of ADL, Jonathan A. Greenblatt, addressed the Senate Judiciary Committee on the current rise in hate crimes. He stated that the appropriate response would be to call out bigotry whenever it occurs.

Mr. Greenblatt laid out policy recommendations that included creating a task force that would help coordinate responses to hate crimes across the Executive Branch. He also recommended boosting training for officers on how to assist victims of hate crimes, as well as enhancing the data collection capacity of several law enforcement agencies.
